Some people have bought Bel Pro and Escort Radar detectors on ebay from unauthorized dealers and are stuck. You may be one of them.
What Happens?
Consumers go to ebay and see a great deal on a Bel Pro or Escort Radar Detector. Although the price is ridiculously low and they know the dealer is unauthorized, they see that the seller has good feedback and includes their own warranty - so they take the bait. Then a few months later when they have an issue, the seller charges them a replacement fee (up to $30) and then reportedly sends them back the same unit saying it wasn't defective.
One company, Inet Distributors, who was actually run by Midwest Inventory Distribution, was busted last year for selling Beltronics on Ebay and removing the serial numbers. Now, anyone who bought those from Inet distributors cannot get a replacement unit because Inet can no longer get them. Click here for details.
So I am tracking down these Ebayers who are selling these and getting their real information so consumers can contact them and voice their complaints about the real companies to Beltronics and Escort Radar.
The first Ebayer is Dougtheaterman - also now using the name bestpricegadgets. Apparently this company was already busted last year by the Escort Distributor for peeling serial numbers off the units and can no longer obtain Escort Radar detectors. But it's interesting that they can get Beltronics units. How is that? The Bel Distributor, Innovative Professional Sales, is right around the corner from them and sells them many units. In fact, the company is listed on the Beltronics authorized dealer list. But here's another interesting thing: This company has no retail store and no website to sell radar detectors but they sell allot of them. Their main business is websites and phone service. So how do they sell so many? Oh yeah - they sell below retail on Ebay. Who is Dougtheaterman? Try The Endless Advantage in Aurora, CO. They will deny it because they don't want Beltronics to pull the product from them for selling below retail on Ebay, but they were already busted by the Escort Radar side of Beltronics. For more details on Dougtheaterman and bestpricegadgets, click here.
The second Ebayer is harleypartsandmore8, who used to be 12v-wizard. All I can tell you is that this guy's name is Mark and he runs Crow's Custom Cycles in Battle Creek Michigan. He is also guilty of serial number removal.
I am currently working on a couple of the other Ebay dealers and have phone numbers. I just have to get a little further in the verification process before I post anything. If you need info on a specific dealer, please leave a comment to this post and I will try to help you out.
